Ladies Almost Take Title

Sussex County Ladies Golf Association Rider Foursomes 2011.

The Rider Foursomes tournament is one of the biggest events in the County calendar.  This year it attracted 48 clubs.  Each club enters two foursomes pairs whose aggregate stableford scores are added together to determine the winner.

This year the event was staged by the County officials at Ifield Golf Club.  Holtye ladies were represented by Lesley Whatley and Debbie Schofield and Di Botham playing with Val Ward.

After last year's late start this year we were put on the tee at 08:30.  One of the first teams out were Chartham Park and they set the standard with a credible combined score of 72 points.

Not to be outdone and cheered on by our playing partners Royal Ashdown, Val and Di posted a stunning score of 40 points, which eventually proved to be the best of the 96 pairs. With a totral of 69 points we then had an agonising wait to find out if another club bettered the score or equalled it.

Finally it was announced that we had won 2nd place on count back by a single point.  The club was presented with a silver salver and a shield to keep.
